1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Trail Pathfinder ("the Platform"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree, you may not use the Platform.

2. Description of Service

Trail Pathfinder is a free, community-powered trail mapping platform that provides:

  • Interactive trail maps for hiking, biking, off-road driving, RC crawling, and other outdoor activities
  • GPS activity tracking and recording
  • Route planning and navigation
  • Trail discovery and community ratings
  • Event creation and registration
  • Community groups and discussions
  • Vehicle/rig garage management
  • Live location sharing (beacon)

3. User Accounts

  • You must provide accurate information when creating an account.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
  • You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
  • One person may maintain only one account.
  • We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

4. User-Generated Content

4.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of content you submit (trails, photos, reviews, posts). By submitting content, you grant Trail Pathfinder a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content within the Platform for the purpose of operating the service.

4.2 Content Standards

You agree not to submit content that:

  • Is false, misleading, or inaccurate
  • Infringes on intellectual property rights of others
  • Contains hate speech, harassment, or threats
  • Promotes illegal activities
  • Contains malware, spam, or commercial solicitation
  • Violates any person's privacy
  • Includes explicit or inappropriate material

4.3 Content Moderation

We review trail submissions and event listings before publishing. We reserve the right to remove, edit, or reject any content that violates these terms or is otherwise inappropriate, without prior notice.

5. Trail Information Disclaimer

Important: Trail data on this platform is contributed by the community and sourced from OpenStreetMap. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or safety of any trail information.

  • Trail conditions change frequently due to weather, natural events, and land management.
  • Difficulty ratings and descriptions are subjective and may not reflect current conditions.
  • GPS coordinates may contain inaccuracies.
  • Some trails may cross private property or restricted areas.

Always exercise your own judgment, check local regulations, and prepare appropriately before heading out. Trail Pathfinder is not responsible for any injury, loss, or damage resulting from the use of trail information on this platform.

6. GPS Tracking and Location

  • GPS accuracy depends on your device, environment, and signal conditions. We do not guarantee the precision of recorded tracks.
  • Activity statistics (distance, elevation, speed) are estimates derived from GPS data and may contain errors.
  • The live beacon feature shares your real-time location via a public link. Use it responsibly and only share the link with people you trust.
  • You are responsible for your own safety while using GPS navigation features. Do not rely solely on this platform for navigation in remote or dangerous areas.

7. Events

  • Event organizers are solely responsible for the planning, execution, and safety of their events.
  • Trail Pathfinder is a listing platform only. We do not organize, endorse, or assume liability for any events posted on the Platform.
  • Event participants attend at their own risk.
  • Event organizers must comply with local laws, obtain necessary permits, and carry appropriate insurance.

8. Groups and Communities

  • Group creators and moderators are responsible for managing their groups and ensuring community guidelines are followed.
  • We reserve the right to remove groups or revoke verified status for violations of these terms.
  • Group content (posts, discussions) must comply with the content standards in Section 4.2.

9. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

  • Use the Platform for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' accounts or our systems
  • Scrape, crawl, or harvest data from the Platform without permission
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Platform's infrastructure
  • Impersonate other users or entities
  • Use automated tools to create accounts or submit content
  • Circumvent any security features or access controls
  • Use the Platform to track or monitor others without their consent

10. API Usage

Access to the Trail Pathfinder API is provided for personal use and authorized integrations. You agree not to:

  • Exceed reasonable request rates
  • Use API access to build competing services
  • Share or expose API tokens
  • Use the API for data mining or bulk extraction

We reserve the right to revoke API access at any time without notice.

11. Intellectual Property

The Trail Pathfinder name, logo, and platform design are our intellectual property. Trail data sourced from OpenStreetMap is available under the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL).

Map tiles are provided by OpenStreetMap contributors and used in accordance with their usage policies.

12. Limitation of Liability

Trail Pathfinder is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Trail Pathfinder and its operators shall not be liable for:

  • Any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform
  • Personal injury, property damage, or loss resulting from outdoor activities undertaken using information from this Platform
  • Loss of data, including activity recordings or trail submissions
  • Service interruptions or downtime
  • Actions of other users, event organizers, or group members

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Trail Pathfinder and its operators from any claims, losses, or damages arising from your use of the Platform, your content, or your violation of these Terms.

14. Account Termination

  • You may delete your account at any time through your dashboard settings or via the API.
  • We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these terms.
  • Upon termination, your profile data will be removed. Community contributions (approved trails, ratings) may be retained in anonymized form.

15. Modifications to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

16. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Platform shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation.
